Integrate Google Analytics with your Etsy Shop
Google Analytics is the most widely used web analytics service in the world. Using Google Analytics, together with your Etsy stats, can help you make better business decisions and grow your shop faster.
Some examples of insights that Google Analytics will provide you with:
- Bounce rate
- Time spent
- Additional traffic sources
- More in-depth customer information
Google Analytics is free, which makes this simple integration worthwhile.
Prerequisites
- An Etsy account.
- A Google Account (don't worry, it is possible to create a Google Account during the setup process).
Let's get started
Navigate to Google Analytics. If you never used Google Analytics before, click on "Start For Free". If you have used it previously, click "Sign in to Analytics". If you don't have a Google Account, clicking either one of the options will let you create a new account. Sign in and continue to step 2.
Click on "Admin" and then "Create Account"
Fill in your shop information, make sure that you choose "Website" in the first selection and that you use "https://etsy.com" in the property field. Example:
Account Name: [My Etsy Shop]
Website Name: [Etsy Shop]
Website: https://etsy.com
Industry: Shopping
Time zone: [Select your time zone]
Select if you want to share data with Google (you will share data if you don't change any options).Click on "Get Tracking ID". It will redirect you to a page containing your Tracking ID, which will start with "UA-". The Tracking ID will be used to connect your Etsy shop with your Google Analytics account.
If you, for some reason, can't find your Tracking ID, make sure you completed the previous steps and click Admin >> Tracking Info >> Tracking Code.Copy the "Tracking ID".
Navigate to your Etsy shop and click "Shop Manager" in the top menu.
Click on "Settings" in the left navigation, then "Options", and finally "Web Analytics".
Fill in your Tracking ID in the "Web Property ID" and click "Save".
Congratulations, you are all set!
It takes up to 24 hours for the data to appear in your Google Analytics account. An excellent way to make sure that the integration was successful is to check the status message next to your "Tracking ID", which you find by navigating to Admin >> Tracking Info >> Tracking Code on your Analytics account.
